Job reviewers: invite external linguists without buying them a seat
How per-language job reviewer invites work for LSPs — email access, review assignments, and permissions that keep freelancers out of your workspace billing.
Your client's subject-matter expert does not need a BabelBee subscription. Neither does the freelance linguist who checks French for one afternoon. But they do need to approve flagged segments before you deliver to the client.
Job reviewers are BabelBee's answer: external people invited to one translation job — one target language in one project — without joining your workspace and without consuming a paid seat.
Workspace members vs job reviewers
| Workspace member | Job reviewer | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Entire workspace (per role) | One project + one language job |
| Seat | Counts toward plan seats | Does not use a seat |
| Typical person | Employee, in-house PM | Freelancer, SME, outside counsel |
| Can upload | Yes (member+) | No |
| Can export | Yes (member+) | No |
| Can approve segments | Reviewer role+ | Yes, for their job only |
| Account | Joins your org | Keeps their own free account |
Workspace Reviewers are teammates you trust across projects. Job reviewers are guests for a single deliverable.
How to invite someone
- Open the project in the workbench and select the target language job.
- Click Invite job reviewer in the workbench toolbar to open the invitation dialog (available when the job is complete and your role and plan allow it).
- Enter the reviewer's email and send the invite.
- They receive a link (valid 7 days, single-use email match).
- After acceptance, work appears under My review assignments in their account.
Inviters can copy the link manually if email is slow, and can revoke access at any time from the same panel.
Who can invite? Workspace owners, admins, members, and reviewers on Pro or Business plans.
What the reviewer sees
A job reviewer gets a focused view:
- Segments for their language only — not other target languages in the same project
- AI translation, AI-reviewed text, QA flags, and glossary/TM hints where applicable
- Inline editing in the reviewed column (same workbench UX as internal reviewers)
- Approve, waive, or save edits on flagged segments
They cannot:
- See other workspace projects
- Upload source files or change segmentation
- Download Excel, formatted documents, or bilingual exports
- Invite other users or change billing
That boundary is intentional. External experts sign off on wording; your team owns delivery.
When to use job reviewers
Freelance linguist on a rush job — You ran AI Reviewed overnight; a contractor polishes flagged rows before the client call.
Subject-matter expert — A clinician checks medical terminology in the German job while your in-house reviewer handles Spanish.
Outside counsel — Legal reviews the French contract job without gaining access to unrelated workspace history.
Agency handoff — Your PM stays in BabelBee; the client's reviewer approves one language without a full seat license.
When to use a workspace Reviewer instead
Invite someone as a workspace Reviewer when they:
- Work across many projects in your org
- Need the human review queue for all pending Team Verified jobs
- Should export deliverables after sign-off
Reviewers count toward Pro (2 seats) or Business (5 seats) limits. Job reviewers do not — there is no cap on how many you invite per job.
Security and audit
- Invites bind to the exact email entered; accepting with a different login fails.
- Tokens expire after seven days; resend if needed.
- Revocation is immediate — the assignment disappears from their queue.
- Approve and waive actions follow the same human-review rules as internal reviewers, keeping export gates intact until flagged segments are resolved.
Frequently asked questions
Does the freelancer need to pay?
They need a free BabelBee account to accept the invite. They are not charged for reviewing your job.
Can one person review two languages?
Send two invites — one per translation job. Permissions are per job, not per person globally.
Can job reviewers merge or split segments?
Yes — segment adjust tools available to internal reviewers also apply here, so reviewers can fix awkward splits before approval.
What plan do I need?
Pro or Business with reviewer invites enabled. Free and Starter plans are single-seat and do not include external job reviewer invites.
